Mrs. Zelaya's Update

January 30th 2017

Hello Famillies!  Just wanted to touch base on a couple of tweaks that we are implementing in the classroom.  Students are now filling out their assignment notebooks to be signed for the next day.  Usually, the homework will include math practice as well as a reminder to read 20 minutes each night.  Students will have an "assignment" the next day over what they read the night before.  It will be nonspecific which will allow completion no matter what book was read.  This will take ...Continue Reading

Hello Families! We are starting to get into more of a routine!  Although homework folders normally go home on Friday, students will receive their folders tomorrow, 8/22 instead.  I apologize for the delay.  There will not be as much since the timing is shorter.  I did remind the class that they could read over the weekend since that will continue to be a part of the weekly homework.  Until we iron out the wrinkles, I will be more flexible with homework completion.   Also, our class is ab ...Continue Reading

Hello Families and Happy Friday! We had a great week this week!  In math, students continue to show improvement in place value and rounding large numbers.  Practice with your child by asking them to read numbers up to one million.  In reading, we discovered information on mountains and other land forms.  We are almost finished with our land forms lapbooks - they are looking really cool!  We had a lot of reason to celebrate in writer's workshop as well!  Ask your child about their stamina ...Continue Reading
